MEDIA DAY AT THE SPEEDWAY
Autobahn Indoor Speedway Invites Media in for a Test Race
COLUMBIA, MD (May 24, 2013) – Step away from the computer. Put down that pad, pen and camera and do something much more fun. Instead of racing off to the next story, take a race around the track – the track at the Autobahn Indoor Speedway in Jessup, MD.
The Autobahn Indoor Speedway and the Howard County Economic Development Authority are inviting media to take advantage of Media Day at the Speedway fromat 8251 Preston Court, Jessup.
“At Autobahn Indoor Speedway, everyone can be a race driver and feel the rush of being behind the wheel of Italian-made adult racing karts that approach speeds of 50 MPH,” said David Larson, Autobahn Managing Director. “If you are new to racing, we’ve got you covered and we will teach you the rules of the track. If you have it all down, you show us who’s the boss.”
“Choosing Howard County for its first East Coast location supports the fact that Howard County is great place to live, work, do business and have fun,” said Lawrence F. Twele, CEO of the Howard County Economic Development Authority. “Indoor kart racing has been popular in Europe for many years and has recently found a strong following on the west coast in the U.S. We are pleased that Autobahn Indoor Speedway has brought this European-style indoor electric kart racing facility to the Baltimore/Washington D.C.-area. This is great for Howard County tourism and it is great for the local economy.”
Autobahn Indoor Speedway features high-performance, racing karts (think fast cars) that you can drive on either of two indoor grand prix style tracks. These are not the “go carts” you may have been used to as a kid. "We have spared no expense. Our karts are the highest performance, state-of-the-art electric karts available,” said Larson. “One of the first things people notice is torque of our electric motors - that acceleration is amazing! The handling is also top of the line with hydraulic disc brakes, a rear differential and competition style racing tires."
The electric powered Karts are zero-emission and are engineered for safety. The speedway provides all necessary equipment to race including clean head socks and full-face helmets. Autobahn Indoor Speedway offers the popular "Arrive & Drive" race format. Racers are assigned to one of the upcoming races, so reservations are not required. Up to 10 drivers will compete in each race to set the fastest lap times.
